First-Time Setup Wizard Explained

2 min read

The Aimogen First-Time Setup Wizard is designed to get the plugin into a usable state as quickly as possible, without forcing decisions that would lock you into a specific workflow. It guides you through the essential configuration steps required to start generating AI content, while leaving advanced features optional and fully customizable later.

This guide explains what the wizard does, what each step configures, and what you can safely skip or change afterward.

When the Setup Wizard Appears #

The setup wizard runs automatically the first time Aimogen is activated. If it was skipped, dismissed, or interrupted, it can be relaunched at any time from the Aimogen admin area.

The wizard does not generate content, make AI calls, or modify posts. Its only purpose is configuration.

Wizard Overview #

The wizard focuses on four core areas:

  • Environment checks
  • AI provider configuration
  • Default content behavior
  • Optional features and limits

Each step can be completed, skipped, or revisited later from the settings pages.

Step 1: Environment & System Checks #

In the first step, Aimogen evaluates your WordPress and server environment.

It checks:

  • WordPress version compatibility
  • PHP version
  • Memory limit
  • Execution time limit
  • HTTPS availability
  • Outbound API connectivity

If any value is below recommended levels, the wizard shows a warning. These warnings do not block progress, but they indicate potential issues with bulk generation, workflows, or chatbots.

Nothing is changed automatically at this step.

Step 2: Choose an AI Provider #

This is the only required step to use Aimogen.

You are asked to select at least one AI provider, such as:

  • OpenAI
  • AimogenAPI
  • Azure OpenAI
  • Other supported providers (optional at this stage)

For the selected provider, the wizard asks for:

  • API key or credentials
  • Default model (optional)

The wizard performs a connection test to verify that the API key is valid.

You can add more providers later or change the default provider at any time.

Step 3: Default Content Settings #

This step defines how Aimogen behaves when generating content for the first time.

You can configure:

  • Default post status (draft, publish, pending, private)
  • Default post type (posts, pages, or custom post types)
  • Whether categories and tags are generated automatically
  • Whether a featured image should be generated

These settings act as defaults only. Every generator and workflow can override them later.

Step 4: Editor & UI Integration #

Here you choose how Aimogen integrates into WordPress editors.

Options include:

  • Enable AI tools in Gutenberg
  • Enable AI tools in Classic Editor
  • Enable AI quick actions
  • Show or hide advanced controls

Disabling editor integration does not affect bulk generators, chatbots, or workflows.

Step 5: Optional Limits & Safety Controls #

This step is optional but recommended for production sites.

You can define:

  • Usage limits per user or role
  • Daily or monthly execution caps
  • Provider-specific restrictions

If skipped, no limits are enforced and Aimogen operates without restrictions.

Limits can be changed at any time.

Step 6: Finish & Review #

The final step summarizes your selections.

From here, you can:

  • Save and exit
  • Go directly to generate your first AI post
  • Open the provider configuration page
  • Visit the playground

No irreversible changes are made at this point.

After the Wizard: What Happens Next #

Once the wizard is completed:

  • Aimogen is fully functional
  • No content is generated automatically
  • No background jobs are scheduled

You are free to:

  • Start with a single AI post
  • Set up bulk generators
  • Deploy a chatbot
  • Explore workflows and OmniBlocks

Can I Change These Settings Later? #

Yes. All wizard settings are standard Aimogen settings and can be modified later.

The wizard does not lock you into:

  • A provider
  • A model
  • A publishing strategy
  • A UI layout

It simply provides a safe starting point.

Common Questions #

Is the wizard required?
No. It can be skipped, but at least one AI provider must be configured manually before using Aimogen.

Does the wizard make API calls?
Only a connection test to verify your API key.

Will it overwrite existing Aiomatic settings?
No. If you are upgrading from Aiomatic, existing settings are preserved and the wizard adapts to them.

The setup wizard is meant to remove friction, not hide complexity. Advanced users can skip it and configure everything manually, while new users get a guided path to a working setup in minutes.
