Installing and activating Aimogen is straightforward, but because the plugin includes licensing, update services, and optional migration from Aiomatic, it’s important to follow the correct path based on how you purchased it. This guide covers all supported installation scenarios and explains what happens during activation.
Installing Aimogen #
Aimogen is distributed as a standard WordPress plugin ZIP file. The installation process is identical to other premium plugins.
Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard and navigate to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin. Upload the Aimogen ZIP file you downloaded from your purchase platform, then click Install Now. Once the upload finishes, click Activate.
After activation, a new Aimogen menu will appear in the WordPress admin sidebar.
If you are updating from Aiomatic rather than installing fresh, do not deactivate or delete the old plugin first. Aimogen replaces Aiomatic in-place during the update process, preserving all settings, data, logs, conversations, and generated content.
Installing via FTP (Alternative Method) #
If your hosting environment limits upload size or times out during upload, you can install Aimogen manually.
Extract the Aimogen ZIP file on your local machine. Upload the extracted folder to /wp-content/plugins/ using FTP or your hosting file manager. Once the files are in place, go to Plugins → Installed Plugins in WordPress and activate Aimogen from the list.
First Activation: What Happens #
On first activation, Aimogen performs several internal checks:
- Verifies WordPress and PHP compatibility
- Initializes database tables (only if missing)
- Registers custom post types and REST endpoints
- Loads default settings
- Enables the plugin status and diagnostics system
No external API calls are made at this stage. Aimogen does not connect to any AI provider until you explicitly configure one.
You will not lose any existing data when activating Aimogen over an existing Aiomatic installation. The plugin name changes, but the internal structure remains the same.
Licensing and Activation #
Aimogen requires a valid license to receive updates and access premium functionality. The licensing method depends on where you purchased the plugin.
WPBay License Activation #
If you purchased Aimogen from WPBay or migrated your license:
- Go to Aimogen → Activation
- Enter your WPBay license key
- Click Activate License
Once activated, the plugin will unlock updates and full functionality immediately.
Envato / CodeCanyon Migration #
If you previously purchased Aiomatic on CodeCanyon, you can migrate your license:
- Visit the migration page on WPBay
- Enter your CodeCanyon purchase code
- The system automatically generates a coupon
- Redeem the coupon for an Aimogen subscription on WPBay
- Enter the new WPBay license key in Aimogen → License
There is a grace period during which Envato-based licenses continue to work. After this period ends, a WPBay license is required for updates and activation.
Verifying Successful Activation #
After activation and licensing, verify the following:
- The Aimogen admin menu is visible
- No warnings appear in Aimogen menu
- License status shows as active
- No PHP errors appear in debug logs
At this point, Aimogen is fully installed but not yet configured to generate content.
Next Step: Connect an AI Provider #
Aimogen does not generate content until at least one AI provider is configured. The next step is to connect OpenAI, AimogenAPI, Azure OpenAI, or another supported provider.

Common Installation Issues #
If Aimogen does not activate correctly, check:
- PHP version is 7.4 or newer
- Memory limit is at least 128M
- No conflicting plugins blocking REST or cURL requests
- File permissions allow plugin execution
Most activation issues are environment-related and are resolved by adjusting server settings.
Once Aimogen is activated and licensed, you can immediately start generating content, editing posts with AI, or deploying chatbots. Configuration is flexible, so you can enable features gradually as needed without reinstallation.
